Bling, bling, got the ring: Age 20

The best thing about being divorced in my twenties is… Learning to be myself and not be defined by another person or a relationship. Realizing that people don’t die of broken hearts. Eating whatever I want for dinner. Shameless netflix binges in my pajamas. Flirting with cute boys.
I celebrated my divorce by… Picking up painting as a hobby and changing all my furniture to whimsical patterns that my ex would have hated, and adopting more pets just because I could!
My divorce anthem is… “Best Thing I Never Had” – Beyonce (although “Smile” by Lily Allen and “By the Grace of God” by Katy Perry are close runner ups).
Advice for others just starting the divorce process: Do things at your own pace and dump any notion of time-frames. So many people will tell you to “just be mad” or “get over it” and healing doesn’t work that way. Only you can define how you feel and how you want your life to be. Surround yourself with other divorcees and understanding family and friends. Take the time to do things you couldn’t do in your relationship like redecorate and travel. Learn to love yourself and enjoy spending time alone, and never ever settle!
